Our Drop-In-Center (DICE) in Ermita (Cebu, Philippines) celebrates its first year anniversary!
DICE started its activities in June 2017 with 28 children and one educator; one year later, 269 children aged two to ten are registered and being taken care of by two educators and two caretakers under the supervision of a French coordinator, and supported by the punctual help of volunteers.
DICE aims at providing a safe environment to children who usually play in the streets. Our educators are teaching the children about hygiene, sanitation, English, arts and more by fostering values of non-violence, respect, tolerance and mutual self-help.
Our team has been working together with the local educational community, health centers and NGOs to answer the needs of the children in compliance with the community’s long-term goals. Various health campaigns, tutorial sessions for drop-out or at-risk children, monthly parents’ meetings and emergency response trainings have been implemented in addition to the daily activities.
