Actions in the Philippines

Despite a high economic growth rate of 6.4% in 2016 (World Bank), about 20% of the poorest Philipinos receive only 5% of the total income, and social inequalities plague the country. In the Philippines, 40 million people live below the poverty line, including 13 million children, among whom many live in Cebu island’s slums.

Individualised support:

Enfants d’Asie assists more than 300 disadvantaged young people in rural areas and slums on Cebu Island, in order to support their education through financial support, to supply basic needs, psychological follow-up care of children and their families and academic support depending on the needs of each child.

The Training Center: support for students

The Gabay Training Center, set up by Enfants d’Asie, offers 380 young people, from secondary school to higher education, academic reinforcement and individualized support on the road to professional integration. The young people benefit from complementary and professionalizing workshops and training courses.

Day care at DICE (Diversity, Inclusion, & Children Empowerment)

The day care centre (DICE : Diversity, Inclusion & Children Empowerment) is a place for more than 300 children from the Ermita’s slums in Cebu City. The main purpose of the centre is to provide children a healthy environment in which they can blossom away from street dangers. The centre organises playful and educational workshops, medical and nutritional follow-up care, snacks, etc.

The YUNIT programme (Youth United Networks In Information Technology):

The YUNIT programme was launched in July 2021 in partnership with the French Development Agency (AFD). This program aims to improve access to information and communication technologies (ICTs) for disadvantaged children and young people in the rural areas of Medellin, Daanbantayan, in Alegria and in the precarious urban and suburban neighborhoods of Cebu island. Around 10,000 children benefit from this programme. YUNIT acts on raising awareness and informing people on issues that may affect the Philippine youth, such as anti-harassment campaigns or awareness campaigns around gender, inclusion, etc.
