Enfants d'Asie, des avenirs à construire !

Heng, social worker

Who are you ?

Hello, My name is Heng BUN and I started working for Enfants d’Asie since March 2019.

– What is your background before Enfants d’Asie?

Before working within Enfants d’Asie, I worked recently as a social worker specialist with “World Hope International” where I was involved with communities on the subject of violence against girls and women in the Province of Kampong Speu.
Before that, I graduated in Psychology at the Royal University of Phnom Penh and worked in two other organizations, Samatapheap Khnom Organization and Hagar International, as a social worker and boy counselor respectively.

– What is your role within Enfants d’Asie?

I am a social worker in charge of the provinces of Phnom Penh, Takeo and Kampong Speu.
I follow-up the children: school results, health monitoring, feeling in the center and at school etc. I meet them to discuss and but also I work with their relatives, the directors of the centers and teachers.

– What is for you a typical day of your job?

I divide my time between the field missions to meet the children and missions at the central office to transcribe the results on our monitoring tool and discuss about particular cases.

– What are for you the primary qualities of a social worker?

In my opinion, here are the primary qualities of a social worker:
Motivation, sense of observation, listening, problem solving and mostly the commitment to the children is essential. My experience on the field allowed me to acquire them.

– What is your biggest success so far?

I haven’t worked for a long time within Enfants d’Asie, so I will say at first that I have been able to be operational quickly by understanding what is expected as social worker.

– What difficulties did you encounter?

Unfortunately, that is difficult to give as much time as I would like with each child. So I make sure to spend the most of my time with them.
