Enfants d’Asie acts in favour of the education of girls in South-East Asia and joins with UNO’s first international day on October 11, 2012.
Today, on the occasion of the first girls’international day , Enfants d’Asie wishes to stress its involvement in favour of the education of girls. Young girls actually sacrifice their schooling too often in order to provide for family needs.
In the rural areas of Vietnam and in the slums of the Philippines where Enfants d’Asie acts, girls soon give up school to perform household tasks, look after their brothers and sisters, share farm work. As teenagers, many of these girls with no vocational training become maids, or hostesses in night bars. Such jobs expose them to precariousness, violence and prostitution.
In Laos, the organization supports the schooling of young girls born in ethnic minorities in isolated villages in the Oudomxay province.
For Enfants d’Asie, education is the key to allow young girls and teenagers to escape the poverty circle and to make a better future possible for them. It is one of the major goals of the organization through the development of programs in favour of the Promotion of Girls in Laos, Vietnam and the Philippines.
In Laos, a program takes in charge of 16 schools collectively, and sends to school over 500 girls from ethnic minorities.
In the Philippines, thanks to sponsorships and scholarships, over 650 girls from primary and secondary schools, and from university can study, they are fed and have medical care, and the most destitute ones find a shelter.
In Vietnam, this program is implemented for over 550 young girls and teenagers, most of them live in far away villages and hamlets hard to get to.
In Vietnam, only 13% of the girls have registered in the class corresponding to their age group, whereas 35% of the boys have. 80 Euros per year allow a girl to attend school and partly cover the charges for transport and school stationery.
For 20 years, Enfants d’Asie has contributed to support the most destitute children in Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and the Philippines.
In these 4 countries, the organization welcomes orphans or children in great distress. It assures their basic needs : lodgings, food, medical care and schooling, and it also organizes education and play activities.
Nowadays, Enfants d’Asie provides its support to over 5000 children, which means better future prospects for them.
